This house is an American Four Square with Craftsman influence,
which was built in 1912. A full front porch with oversize
truncated wood posts on brick piers and a sawn wood railing
emphasize the Craftsman design features of this house, which are carried through to the knee braces and exposed rafters at
its roofline. The four square floor plan was used at the turn of the 19th century, when an entry hall, formal parlor, dining
room and kitchen formed the spacious public spaces of family housing. Bedrooms, the family's private living spaces, were
found upstairs. The entry to the house is enhanced by the wrought iron front fence, and by the wide front steps which lead to the
front door with elaborate beveled glass side lights. 704 E. Scott is owned by newer residents of Old North Knoxville, who have made
the restoration of this gracious house a priority this past year to prepare for their home wedding last spring and the home tour.
