This Craftsman house, built on “Doctor’s Hill” by Captain and Mrs. William O. White,
had suffered extensive exterior changes when it was bought by the current owners.
They have removed Permastone siding that was probably installed about fifty years ago,
and repaired the original wood siding and shingled gables. The side gable roof and
shed dormer with balcony are typical of Bungalow period Craftsman design, as are the
one-story full front porch with square wood columns and sawn wood balustrade. The
house, in three short years , has been changed from a non-contributing status in the
Old North Knoxville Historic District to one of a contributing example of the turn of
the century design.
