The Hamby House307 West Glenwood Avenue |
Rich new exterior colors call attention to this elaborate Queen Anne mansion with Neoclassical details, built in 1910. A combination of weatherboard and wood-shingled wall covering is typical of the Queen Anne style, as are the steeply pitched roof and louvered wood attic vents. Also significant is the rooftop belvedere. These ornamental rooftop railings were once prevalent in the Old North Knoxville neighborhood, but this is one of the few that remain. The pedimented gables are Neoclassical in design. Other details adding to the architectural richness of the house include the lattice patterned attic windows, the front and side wrap around porch with its turned wood balustrade, the corbelled brick chimneys (one with a double stack), and the projecting two story bay on the east elevation. |
