505 E. Scott

This home is a magnificent 6500 square foot Queen Anne. It was constructed in 1886 by David Getaz, a Swiss immigrant who also designed and built the Knox and Anderson county courthouses. Double etched glass entry doors open into a foyer finished in six varieties of wood. Huge pocket doors access the parlors on the left of the entry, and the adjacent hall leads to a coffered ceiling dining room and kitchen. An ornate staircase leads to the second floor master and family bedrooms, two baths, and a large walk-in closet featuring a unique round stained glass window. In addition, there are three upper porches, a widow's walk, slate roof, a three-story turret, stained glass windows, seven fireplaces, and elaborate woodwork throughout. A broad wrap-around porch graces the front of the house, and, in the back, the restored carriage house has been converted to an apartment. Read more about this house here.
