This two-story Neoclassical home with Queen Anne influence in its styling occupies one of the most prominent and visible corners in the Old North Knoxville neighborhood. Built around 1900 by Brimer and England, it shows the mixture of wall cladding materials typical of the Queen Anne styles, with a stone foundation, brick veneer first story and shingled second story. Other Queen Anne details include its flared beltcourse, the shape of its hip and gable roof, and its leaded and beveled glass transom and sidelights at the front entry. Also noteworthy is the Cottage window on the front elevation. Cottage windows were the first version of the later “picture window.” A two story wrap around porch on the front and side elevations recognizes the house’s position on a corner lot, and the second story turned wood balustrade and fluted first story columns emphasize the corner design. The current owners began their restoration of the house soon after they purchased it
in 1998.
