This two story Queen Anne house dates
from 1895. Typical of the Queen Anne style are the wrap-around front porch with second story balcony, the hip roof with lower cross gables and full cornice return on the front gable, and the cutaway bay on the front elevation, with stained glass windows. Rehabilitation work on the interior has resulted in a functional, updated house that reflects its historic origins.
Alma Householder-Oxendine, the 96-year-old
daughter of the original builder and owner of this house, recently returned to
this house to meet the current owners. Alma pointed out the location of the
once-curved staircase that rose to the second floor, the fireplaces that used to
grace every room, the wonderful wood carved mantles, and the former manicured
gardens of the back yard. Unfortunately, these things had long been removed, but
the owners are working to uncover the long hidden fireplaces. During a birthday
celebration for Alma, a plaque was dedicated to her and the Householder family on the front porch.
