This two story Neoclassical house, with Queen Anne design details, was built c. 1910 and was once the home of Frances McMillian, the owner of a large part of what is now Old North Knoxville. This house is one of four in Knoxville with this particular porch design. These four houses, with their oversized square fluted columns with sawn wood “commas” are located in the old Park City and Old North Knoxville communities, both developed in the 1890s. There are two one-story versions of this porch design. No other examples of these columns are known to exist. Other distinctive architectural details include the porch frieze with its metopes, triglyphs, modillions and dentil molding. The current owners began their restoration soon after they purchased it in 1997, and are continuing their work today.
