This October promises to have something for almost everybody in Old North Knoxville. Starting off the month will be the ONK neighborhood-wide yard sale. ONK held a similar yard sale this past spring. The rules for participating are simple: have your stuff priced and ready to go out the morning of Saturday, October 9th. Old North Knoxville neighborhood association will get the word out. Selling begins at 8 a.m. and goes until you have sold everything or have sold enough for the day. First Creek is significant to Knoxville's history. It was along the banks of this creek where some of Knoxville's first settlers made their homes. To volunteer, contact

. Wear comfortable old clothes and bring some work gloves if you have a pair. You don't have to come for the entire time. This year we will have help from
Americorp, so lets turn out and show them how we clean up the creek and greenway. Just in time for Halloween, Old North Knoxville neighborhood association is sponsoring a potluck on Thursday, October 28th at the Fourth Presbyterian Church on the corner of Broadway and W. Glenwood. The potluck begins at 6:30 p.m. ONK will provide the meat, the plates, and utensels. Anybody who wants to join needs to bring a food item for themselves and some extra to share. There are usually about 40 people at these potlucks, which are held several times a year. It is a chance to get to know some new neighbors, greet some neighbors you might not have seen in a while, and swap stories and maybe even a recipe or two. There will be a monthly meeting after the potluck. Everybody who attends the potluck is invited to attend the meeting. So bring your favorite fall dish and those little
goblins (children) for some food a few days before the trick or treating is to begin. For more information, contact
Tomica Miller at 521-7884 or by . ONK's Beautification Committee will hold its first "Dig and Divide" plant swap at the October 28th potluck social. A Dig and Divide works like this: if you have crowded plants in your yard or garden that need dividing, dig them up and bring them to the meeting. Bringing them in small pots or sandwich bags of soil is helpful. If you have holes in your yard or garden and need a plant, come to the meeting and take one or two. We hope this event will take root and grow. Gives a new meaning to the term pot luck. Return to newsletter table of contents
