HURRY, HURRY, HURRY!
Another Saturday morning creek clean up is scheduled for Old North Knoxville's historic First Creek. Once again, ONK will be partnering with the
Izaac Walton League (IWL) and WBIR (Channel 10) to clean a segment of First Creek. This fall's clean up will focus on the area from Grainger Avenue to Glenwood Avenue. If time and volunteers allow, we will make a light sweep of the area cleaned last spring. It's unfortunate to note that the area cleaned just last spring has been the subject of much vandalism including deliberate additions of shopping carts and other trash to the creek bed. The clean up is scheduled for Saturday, October 19th, from 9 a.m. to noon. ONK will provide a light breakfast at the site prior to the start of the clean up, so arrive at 8:30 a.m. As far as we know this is not a UT football game day. KUB will be on hand to help with trash removal and provide volunteers with clean drinking water. IWL will provide a pizza lunch at the end of the day's duties. Those wishing to volunteer should meet at the bridge where Grainger Avenue crosses First Creek, about 2 ½ blocks East of Broadway. Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting wet and dirty. If you would like more details on the clean up, or would like to volunteer, please contact ONK resident Beth Booker at 524-8515, or kalrecop@bellsouth.net Return to newsletter table of contents
