Vote for City Charter Change
This November 5th, we not only have the opportunity to vote for governor, state
senator, and state representative, we also get to vote for an amendment to the city charter that would make historic preservation part of that charter. This amendment, if passed, requires the mayor to report to city council on the state of historic preservation by July 1st of each year. This change to the charter would not cost the taxpayers any money and does not require the city to take any action. However, it does make historic preservation one of the city's goals for now and into the future. This amendment is backed by Mayor Ashe and was passed unanimously by city council. We at Old North News believe it is an idea whose time has come and urge you to vote for the charter change in November (or in early voting). Return to newsletter table of contents
