First Yard Sale Called a Success

On Saturday, September 8, 2001, Old North Knoxville held its first neighborhood-wide yard sale. Seven homes participated in what the neighborhood hopes will be an annual occurrence. The one-day event started at 8 a.m. and went to 4 p.m. One member who participated earned over $200 for items that became others’ treasures.

The yard sale was coordinated by Bob and Stephanie Lavoie. There are already some discussions about next year’s yard sale with the hope that more homes will participate, making it a bigger and more successful event. But even this modest beginning may have already spurred at least one copy cat since a nearby neighborhood had a neighborhood yard sale the following Saturday.
