Home Tour on Track for Great Show

Even though there hasn't been much talk in these pages about the upcoming home tour recently, that doesn't mean that the tour committee hasn't been busy.  The tour committee, headed this year by Dani Owenby, is well along in the plans for our 14th Annual Victorian Holiday Home Tour.  This event is the premier house tour in the greater Knoxville area with over 1,000 visitors going through ten homes opened by generous Old North Knoxville neighbors.  This event is ONK's only fund raiser of the year (well we do have dues in the association) and ONK depends on the monies raised to continue all the great activities you read about the neighborhood doing.

This year's tour committee has been meeting monthly at Dani's house and has already gotten many commitments for homes to be on the tour and is looking actively to sell ads to be inserted in the calendar that each visitor gets when they come on tour.  Jesse Ursery has already started to get pictures of the houses and lay out the calendar.  All the other thousands of details that go into making the tour a success, such as publicity, getting buses, yard signs, luminaries, the Friday night pretour tour and party, the route for the buses to travel, the ticket booth, change, tour participants briefing, volunteers, and yes, even porta-potties are well underway..  This year will prove a greater than usual challenge due to the rescheduling of the UT-Florida game to the Saturday of the tour, but this group is up to it.

The tour this year is the weekend of December 1 and 2, with the tour running from 4 PM to 9 PM on Saturday and from 1 PM to 5 PM on Sunday.  Volunteers to work in the houses, on the buses and in the ticket booth are always needed and welcomed.  To volunteer, call Dani Owenby at 633-8629 and she'll be happy to put you to work.
