Fall Garden Tips

By Susan Hamilton, Ed.D.

September and October are ideal months to either overseed or reseed your lawn.  The temperatures are optimal for cool season grasses like fescue to really perform.  However, October is also our driest month so be sure to water regularly until the new lawn is established.  Make sure, also that you fertilize your established lawn during this time and that you mow your lawn to 2 1/2" to 3" or taller.  The taller the height of your lawn, the more vigorous and weed resistant it will be.
