Christenberry Elementary School Celebrates Walk Our Children to School Day

On the morning of Wednesday, October 4, our community will join others from around the world as students and parents from Christenberry Elementary walk to school in celebration of Walk our Children to School Day.  This event encourages parents to teach children about physical activity and pedestrian safety, and raises awareness of the difficulties and dangers of walking in many American communities.  Information on the "walk ability" of our neighborhood will be gathered at the event.  The walk will start from Steven's Mortuary and Oak Hill Baptist Church at 7:00 AM.  Teachers, athletes from the University of Tennessee, and community leaders such as City Council member Larry Cox and County Commissioner David Collins will join Christenberry parents and students along the route and at the school for a reception following the walk.  Old North Knoxville is supporting this event with a $200 donation for the reception.  If you are interested in participating in the event, contact Stephanie Lavoie at 215-5184 or slavoiegi@yahoo.com.
