Watch Where You Park

One of the good things to come out of having a dog is that I am forced to walk the neighborhood at least twice a day. While this is good for health reasons, it also allows me the leisure to observe the neighborhood in a way that I could never do while driving through. One of the things I've been observing is the habit some of us have for parking on the sidewalks. PLEASE DON'T PARK ON THE CURBS AND SIDEWALKS!! Our neighborhood recently spent several years and uncounted man hours working to get the city to repair as many of the sidewalks in the neighborhood as we could. It worked! We got almost the entire year's budget from the city for sidewalk repairs last year. Give the limited budget and the number of neighborhoods screaming for repairs, we were fortunate to get what we did, and it will probably be quite a while before we are able to get any more. So we, as a neighborhood, need to do our part by keeping what we have in the best possible shape. One of the things you can do to sidewalks and curbs is park on them. DON'T DO IT! Oh yes, it is also illegal and you can be subject to a fine for doing it. Don't believe me? Ask your neighbor. |
