Margo’s Winners

Thanks to the judges and congratulations to the winners of this year’s Holiday Decorating Contest. I travel up and down East Scott Avenue very frequently and would personally like to thank all the spectacular decorators for making my trip that much more enjoyable.

While the Judges certainly chose great winning houses, I would like to add a few personal favorites to the list both on Scott Ave and some others I saw.

The Hill Residence at 505 E. Scott was spectacular this year. We especially enjoyed the vintage nativity scene on the front steps. The house directly across the street was also quite impressive, more than half a dozen wreathes, garland and moving reindeer.

While this sort of decoration might be considered tacky by some, my family thoroughly enjoyed the lit, moving, blown up Christmas extravaganza on the 200 block of E. Scott. My brother loved the reindeer pulling Santa out of the chimney so much that he frequently caught himself headed for the traffic circle. As for the E. Scott entrance into our neighborhood, the flood of white lights at 124 E. Scott and the crisscrossed design at 121 E. Scott were a great invitation into the neighborhood.

Most of the houses I noticed were on Scott, because I travel that way most frequently, but my dog and I also walk up Folsom from Glenwood. On that corner, 311 W. Glenwood looked great covered in fresh garland and wreathes, as did the houses on either side of 311, you know who you are.

Just in case you didn’t notice, houses were not the only decorated things in the hood. Thanks to Nancy Hugh and Steve Symons for climbing up all the lamp posts and flagpoles in ONK to hang those pretty red bows.

And last but not least, my holiday favorite, the tree-scape atop St. Mary’s Hospital. I absolutely adore the dozens of “light trees” filling the hospital roofs with holiday cheer.

So again, to everyone who decorated: Thanks and well done!
