In this installment we profile

ANTIQUE ROW

The 1927 New York Yankees had their Murders' Row of hitters that included Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Combs, and Meusel. In 1945, author John Steinbeck made Monterey, California's Cannery Row famous in a novel by the same name. Today, Cannery Row is a tourist attraction with it's own web site and events.

Though neither owners nor their business are yet as famous as either of these examples, Knoxville has an Antique Row extending from the Old City to near Sharp's Ridge.

Composed of 8 shops and 1 tea room, it includes Mumsy's Treasures. Menagerie, My Junk Store, AA Antiques, Antiques Central, Jackson Avenue Antiques, Sullivan Street Market, Betties Antiques, and The Time Warp Tea Room.

Old North Knoxville is fortunate to have a variety of shopping adventures within easy walking distance. Included in that shopping is a portion of Knoxville's Antique Row, a collection of shops with a wide variety of treasures.

Bettie's Antiques & More is located at 1313 N. Broadway and has plenty of parking at the door. Owner Bettie Styles and her staff have been selling their personal blend of antique and newer merchandise at this location since January 2001.

Bettie's is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Give her a call at 865-544-1430 if you want to look for that special something. Browsing is encouraged.

One look from the outside isn't enough to give even an inkling of the treasures within. Absolutely every inch of this place is jam packed with enough goodies as to cause eyestrain. Follow the aisles through wave after wave of glassware, dishes, linens, jewelry, and furniture. If you don't see it, just ask Bettie, chances are she's got one somewhere.

Antiques Central has been located at 1207 N. Central in the heart of the Central Avenue business district since 2000. This prime business location is shared by Art & Carol Troyer, and Marty Libertosky.

Open on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. this treasure-trove specializes in antique furniture, lamps, ceiling fixtures, hardware, and linens. Most of their furniture selection is pre-1950s and they spend their days off scouring far and wide for new merchandise for the shop. If you've been on recent Old North Knoxville holiday home tours, you've seen furniture from Antiques Central prominently featured in several tour homes.

You can call Antiques Central at 865-406-5098 or 865-579-9331 to find out what's the latest & greatest. Better yet, stop in and look, you're sure to find that special something for a gift or for your own home.

AA Antiques at 1210 N. Central is far larger than you'd imagine from the street. AA's front rooms are filled with hardware and vintage metal items. If you step through the doorway to the back you'll find a cavernous display room of furniture. AA specializes in furniture suites including bedroom sets, dining room sets; wardrobes, and other large pieces. Most are in great shape and ready to be used in your home. AA is open daily, including weekends.
