Old North Neighborhood Cleans Up

Following a long established tradition (at least two years!), your neighborhood recentlyNeighborhood cleanup volunteers in action got together to celebrate National clean-up Day by cleaning up our own neighborhood. Meeting at 9 in the morning on Saturday, April 13, this hardy group were issued plastic bags and gloves by Donna and Tom Brechko. (The bags and gloves were furnished by the national campaign.) We then proceeded to scour the neighborhood picking up any and all trash we found. And boy did we find some trash! I will not go into the gory details in case you are reading this while eating a meal, but suffice to say that it is obvious that not all of the people who frequent our neighborhood are law abiding citizens and some of them are down right weird. But we also had the opportunity to meet and talk with some of our neighbors along the way. We were even given some iced tea by the new owner of the J-Bo’s market formerly Gordo’s. It was much appreciated. After working our way along Scott, Oklahoma, Armstrong, Glenwood, Cornelia, Anderson and various streets in between, everyone regrouped at the Palmer’s house just as the pizza and sodas were brought by the Brechkos. There then occurred ONK neighbors "clean up" on the pizza! the annual swapping of tales about who picked up the most and the most gross trash while we stuffed our faces. Everyone had a great time! If you don’t see yourself in any of these pictures, why not! We’ll give you another chance soon. The neighborhood is organizing a clean up of the First Creek Greenway in June and we would love to have you join us. See the article elsewhere in this newsletter. Oh yeah, we’ll probably eat again.
