Tips for Your Garden

By Susan Hamilton

This month's gardening tip is on care for your summer lawn.  To ensure a lush, green lawn through the summer, be sure to raise your mowing height to 2 1/2" to 3".  The taller the leaf blade you maintain, the deeper the roots will grow, allowing your lawn to withstand heat and drought better.  A taller lawn is also more resistant to weed infestation.  Also, make sure your lawn receives between 1/2" to 1" of water per week.  If we don't get rain, apply this much water to keep your lawn stress-free and vigorous.  July and August are the two most stressful months for our lawns due to heat and drought.
