Marker Beautification

Did you know that there are four brick markers in Old North Knoxville? That these markers help to define one of Knoxville’s Historic Neighborhoods? Do you know where these markers are?
In an effort to promote the neighborhood and to beautify the markers, the Beautification Committee of Old North Knoxville, Inc. has undertaken the task of cleaning up around these markers and decorating the area around them with flowers and plants. The committee, chaired by Susan Hamilton, recently spruced up the marker on East Scott Ave. near Central Ave. Other members of the committee include Beth Booker, Donna Brechko, Kim Davis, Dani Owenby, and Lynne Palmer. Plans are underway to beautify the other markers. In some cases, permission from landowners will be needed before work can be done. Members of the committee are also undertaking the responsibility of keeping the flowers and plants watered, and the weeds away from their handiwork. Where are the other markers? At the intersection of Central and Broadway in front of the AM South Bank, at the corner of Kenyon and Woodland, and on Baxter Street at the fire hall. This one on Baxter has already been spruced up the firefighters. Thanks. And thanks to the members of the Beautification Committee. If you are interested in helping out with this or future beautification projects, contact Susan Hamilton by way of Old North Knoxville, Inc. at 673-8995.
