And the door prize winners are...
As part of 16th Annual Holiday Home Tour, Old North Knoxville awarded three door prizes to individuals who had taken the tour. These door prizes were generously donated by
High Tech Salon, Bliss Home + Art, and Cleveland's Interiors.
And the winners this year are: High Tech Salon - Scott Sloan of Seymour Avenue in Knoxville; Bliss -
Becky Collins of Maryville, TN; and Cleveland's - Clara Burns of Oak Ridge Highway in Knox County.
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to these kind businesses who donated the prizes.
And some more winners are...
For the past six years, Old North Knoxville has selected 6 winners in its annual Holiday Home Tour Decorating Contest. There are three winners in each of two categories: Modern/Lighted and Traditional. Judges from outside the neighborhood are brought in to select the winners, and each winner receives a $25
Kroger Gift Certificate. Thank you to the three judges this year: Councilman Rod
Frost, Ann Bennett of the Historic Zoning Commission, and Reed Massengill of the historic
Mechanicsville neighborhood.
And the winners are:
Modern/Lighted Category: Larry and Janey Lauver of 509 East Scott Ave., Sean and Jennifer Bolen of 215 East Oklahoma Ave., and
David Marshall, Eddie Ratcliff, and Brad Phillips of 1401 Grainger Ave.
In the Traditional Category: Tom and Donna Brechko of 510 East Scott Ave.,
Ruth Bowling of 1408 Grainger Ave., and Tom Havasy and Mike Branam of 1001 Thompson Place.
The judges said it was a hard decision to make, that there were many many decorated houses to selected from. Thank you to everybody who decorated the outsides of your homes to make the Holiday Season a little brighter.
KPD Officer Earns Master's Degree
Congratulations to Knoxville Police Department Officer Dennis Bible who recently completed a Master's degree in Organization Training and Education.
Officer Bible is one of the patrol officers from the Central District who patrol Old North Knoxville and help us make the neighborhood a safer place to live.
He' hasn't decided what he will do with the advanced degree, he said, but we in ONK hope he will find some use for it around here.
Garden Tour
Attention gardeners and plant fanciers. Mark your calendars. The Old North Knoxville Beautification Committee will be hosting its first garden tour on Saturday, June 4th. This tour will feature four ONK gardens in a variety of sizes and levels of maturity.
Watch the newsletter and web site for more information on this exciting new neighborhood event.
2005 Spring Fling
The second annual ONK Spring Fling will be held the weekend of April 9th & 10th.
Dumpsters will be placed at four locations in the neighborhood so you can "fling" the excess out of your closets, garages, or basements. Look for more information in the March issue of the ONK news.
Want to see yourself on TV?
Want to help out a local institution that has brought you Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, Nova, Sesame Street, and Waiting for God? Well, you can do both. ONK resident
Andy Anderson is once again looking for ONK volunteers to help answer the phones during
WETP-TV's March membership drive.
For over 20 years, Old North Knoxvillians have volunteered to work one night of the membership fund drive at East Tennessee's public television station. All you have to do is answer a phone and take each caller's pledge.
Your services would be needed Saturday, March 12th from 6 - 10 p.m. To volunteer or if you have any questions, please call Andy Anderson at 523-2005. He's waiting for your call.
