Well, for both sets of folks and for almost everybody in between, curbside recycling is just a phone call away. If your trash is picked up by Waste Connections (and it probably is unless you live in an apartment and the apartment owner has a contract with somebody else), then call 522-0078 to sign up. There is a fee: $21 every 6 months and a one-time $10 charge for the 18-gallon recycling container. You can pay by credit card or by check. What will they take? They take no. 1 and no. 2 plastic (It is usually marked on the bottom of the plastic container.), newspapers (but no magazines, cardboard, or phone books), aluminum cans, steel cans (The type soups, and canned vegetables and fruits come in.), and clear, green, or brown glass. Where do you place the recycling for pick up? You place it out in front of your house near the curb. How often will they pick it up? Recycling pick up is done every other week. It has to be out by 7 a.m. at the latest on the day trash is picked up. In Old North Knoxville, trash is usually picked up on Fridays. The next recycling pick up is January 28th. The next one after that will be February 11th. The one after that February 25th, and so on. Return to newsletter table of contents
