Board members Chester Kilgore and Andy Anderson

Chester Kilgore has lived on Grainger Ave. since 1980. In 1989 the Brownlow Community, of which Grainger was included, was "annexed" as part of Old North Knoxville. The former Brownlow Community runs from the corner of Broadway and Glenwood to 6th Ave. up to Cecil Ave. and back up Broadway to Glenwood.

At the time of the joining of Brownlow and Old North Knoxville, Chester was the President of Brownlow and then became a board member in ONK. As a board member, he feels he can complain if things do not go well and has the ability to help fix them. Since 1992, he has been the co-chair of the Historic Preservation Committee, served on the Home Tour Committee for 12 out of the past 14 years, worked on the Traffic Calming and Special projects Committees, and is the block captain for the Neighborhood Watch program.

Chester also volunteers his time outside the neighborhood as a board member of Knox Heritage, a member of the citywide Traffic Calming Policy Committee, and is a member of the Metropolitan Planning Commission. As co-chair of ONK's Historic Preservation Committee, he also represents the neighborhood before the Historic Zoning Commission

When Chester first saw his house on Grainger Ave., he fell in love with it, bought it, went to New York where he was living, packed up, and moved to back to his boyhood town of Knoxville. He is a graduate of Fulton High School, and recently retired from Cleveland's Interiors, where he was the general manager. His dream for ONK is to have all the homes under the H-1 Overlay and to have entire neighborhood participation in activities of ONK.

Homer "Andy" Anderson is a founding member of the Old North Knoxville Neighborhood Association. He is a past president of ONK, was a member of the first board in 1978, and came up with the name for the organization. He, his wife Jo Ann, son Bill, and daughter-in-law Sonja live on Glenwood in a house he has called home since 1977.

Andy grew up on Wells Ave., in a house where Guy B. Love Towers are now located. His family moved there in 1948 from the corner of Central and Pruitt Place. After leaving home, Andy served in the U.S. Navy and is a Vietnam Veteran. He has also served in the Naval Reserve and Tennessee Air National Guard, from which he is retired. In 1996, he also retried from Martin Marietta (Y-12).

Andy said, "I like being able to work towards improving the neighborhood and just helping do what is needed to improve conditions in ONK." He serves on the Home Tour, Special Projects, and Neighbors Helping Neighbors Committees. He is also the 2nd vice president of ONK. He has been Home Tour co-chairman, served on the Executive Board, worked on Transforming Neighbors Together (TNT) Committee, and the Nominating Committee.

"I would like to see the rest of the neighborhood get Historic Overlay and would like to see more neighbor participation in the activities of the organization," he said. If there were more hours in the day, Andy said he "would like to work more on doing family treeing. I get to work genealogy some, but I would like to be able to do more."
