New banners erected in Old North Knoxville

Beautification Committee to meet February 28th

New banners made of canvas have been erected on most of the poles around Old North Knoxville. Unfortunately the original banners were made of a vinyl type of material that after a couple of years was faded, ripping, and showing signs of wear.

With the new banners made of a marine canvas that stands up to the sun's fading-inducing ultraviolet radiation, Old North Knoxville president, Tomica Miller, has been told it should be at least 5 years before Old North will need to consider replacing them.
While most of the banners were up before the recent Holiday Home Tour, three banners are net yet raised. Special pole extenders need to placed on these three poles to help raise the banners higher off the ground.

Beautification Plans to be Discussed

The Beautification Committee for Old North Knoxville will get together on Saturday, February 28th at 9:30 a.m. at the Time Warp Tea Room at 1209 N. Central Street. Topics to be discussed include: spring creek cleanup, work on the neighborhood entry markers, and our proposed fall bulb sale.

Among the items netted at a fall creek clean up of part of the creek were 23 bags of trash, 21 pieces of rebar, 15 car tires, 2 boilers, and 1 small artificial Christmas tree. Unfortunately, there is still plenty left to remove. The cleanup will be sometime this spring, probably a Saturday in April.

Anyone interested in making Old North a more beautiful place to live in is invited. If you'd like more information, please call Beth Booker at 524-8515, or e-mail at kalrecop@bellsouth.net.
