And the Winners Are . . .

For four years now, Old North Knoxville, Inc. (ONK) has held a decorating contest in conjunction with its annual Victorian Holiday Home Tour. The judging is done on the Friday evening before the tour begins by people from outside the neighborhood. Each winner receives a $25 gift certificate to Kroger. Though only six winners are selected, there were certainly more than six homes decorated and lit up for the holidays. Several of the homes in Old North Knoxville were even mentioned in an article done by The Knoxville News-Sentinel highlighting holiday decorated homes throughout Knoxville.

ONK President Tomica Miller said she was glad to see so many houses decorated for the holiday season. "Having so many homes decorated before the tour helps the neighborhood put its best foot forward to those taking the tour. Thank you to all my neighbors who decorated their homes."

Above, the home of Glen and Carolyn Lowery on East Scott Ave. was one of the winners in the 4th Annual Decoration Contest.

Without further ado, the addresses of the winners are:

  • 1324 Grainger Ave. Known as the Symons House, this home was on tour this year.
  • 509 E. Scott Ave., Delores Jane McKinley.

  • 225 E. Oklahoma Ave. Owned by new residents Scott Schimmel and Lisa Sorensen, this house was also on tour.

Other winners were the homes at:
  • 1515 N. Fourth Ave.
  • 225 Kern Place
  • 110 E. Scott Ave. Owned by Glen and Carolyn Lowery, this home has been a previous winner.

The 2003 decorating contest will be ONK's 5th. It will coincide with the 15th Annual Victorian Holiday Home Tour and the 25th anniversary of the neighborhood association. We're looking forward to a decked out time in the neighborhood this holiday season.
