Being thankful for sponsors and volunteers in 2004

Below, a few of the 25 Americorp volunteers who helped out at a recent 1st Creek Cleanup. Story here. Above, the house at 240 E. Scott Ave., one of the 10 homes and 1 church on the Home Tour. Details here.

Old North News would like to thank the sponsors of this year's 16th Annual Victorian Holiday Home Tour for helping us make the tour a success. Those sponsors are: radio station WUOT, 91.9 fm; cable company Comcast; Kroger grocery stores; Wells Fargo Home Mortgage; and St. Mary's Health Systems. We would also like to thank Bliss, Cleveland Smith Interiors, and High Tech Salon for donating door prizes. They all help Old North Knoxville succeed in putting on this annual event.

Old North News would also like to thank Stephen Henderson and the Home Tour Committee. They have worked many hours to get ready for this home tour. We would also like to thank those who have volunteered to open their homes. Without them there would be no tour.

We would also like to thank all those over the past year who have volunteered to help the neighborhood with creek cleanups, neighborhood cleanups, neighbors helping neighbors, and to all those who have served on the various neighborhood committees such as the Beautification Committee, Special Projects Committee, and Traffic Calming Committee just to name three. We would like to extend a special thanks to the Salvation Army, Volunteer Rescue Ministry, and Americorp for providing volunteers to help with two creek cleanups this year. This is an example of those outside the neighborhood helping us.

While the Home Tour focuses on presenting ONK to the outside world, these committees focus on doing things within the neighborhood for the residents. But you wouldn't have one without the other. The tour generates money that helps do things within the neighborhood and even allows ONK to contribute to such things as Meals on Wheels and Fulton High School scholarship fund. To volunteer to be on a committee or to help out with a project, contact ONK president Tomica Miller at 521-7884 or .
