The President's Corner
Time to Decorate for the Holidays

By: Tomica Miller

Old North Knoxville is celebrating several anniversaries in 2003: 25th year of the neighborhood association, 15th year of the annual Victorian Holiday Home Tour, and the 5th year of the neighborhood Christmas decorating contest.

Last year there were 6 winners. This year, six more gift certificates from Kroger will be awarded, and you could win one of them. All you have to do is decorate the outside of your home with the spirit of the holiday season. The theme could be traditional with period decorations befitting the age and historic nature of Old North Knoxville. Or you could decide to go more modern and decorate with a more contemporary theme.

To enter the contest, all you have to do (and it is certainly enough) is have your decorations in place by Thursday evening, December 4th. If lights are involved, please have them turned on.

A panel of judges from outside the neighborhood will select the winners and the certificates will be awarded. There is no set theme, and certainly every home in Old North Knoxville will be considered. The only thing we ask of all those who decorate for the holidays is to have your lights on during the Holiday Home Tour on Saturday, December 6th and Sunday, December 7th.

And if you don't have decorations out, please turn on your porch lights. The glow from these lights will help to cast a warm feeling over the neighborhood as we celebrate not only the holiday season but the Holiday Home Tour as well.

Happy Holidays!
