15th Victorian Holiday Home Tour

Pictured are two of the limited edition ornaments for sale.

For a neighborhood that has houses over 100 years old, something that is only 15 years old is well ... still a teenager. Despite its relatively young age, the Old North Knoxville Annual Victorian Holiday Home Tour is something worth celebrating.

Why? Because its not many historic neighborhoods in the area that had an annual home tour for 15 straight years. That means volunteers have generously given of their time, talent, and abilities for 15 straight years. That means for 15 straight years homeowners -- different ones each year -- have opened their homes to literally thousands of people. Last year's tour alone attracted over 1,400 people.

This year is no different. There are 10 homes on the tour and many hours of preparation already put into making this year's tour a success. But there is plenty yet to do and anybody who wants to volunteer to man a house, be a tour guide, can contact Scott Schimmel or Lisa Sorensen at 523-6906 or send an e-mail to islisahere@hotmail.com

A new item this year is an Old North Knoxville Christmas ornament featuring one of the historic homes in Old North. Chester Kilgore's house on Grainger Avenue is the home featured in this 24k gold on brass ornament. The ornaments come gold or silver color and each one has a certificate with the number of the ornament on it and a brief history of the house on the back. Only 175 of these ornaments were made. They are selling for $12 a piece and will make wonderful Christmas gifts. If all goes well with this one, plans are to have a different one for sale each year during the tour. Of course, there will also be sweat shirts, t-shirts, and mugs for sale with the logo of Old North Knoxville on them. These items will be available at the ticket booth, and make great presents for those preservation minded folks you know. T-shirts are $12, sweat shirts are $20, and mugs are only $5 a piece.
