Neighborhood Church Hosting Tours Nov. 24th

Thanks to the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, the peal of a church bell again fills the air in Old North Knoxville. Their repaired bell rings on the quarter hour, half hour, three-quarter hour, and on the hour. This pleasant addition returns a sound that was once and is again a familiar part of the neighborhood's ambience and history.

As part of its Christ the King celebration, on Sunday, November 24th, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Holy Ghost will offer guided tours. Descriptive placards of the stained glass windows, copper impressions of selected floor tiles, and displays of icons will be part of each tour. There will also be a brief choral concert beginning at 4:30 p.m., followed by evening prayers at 5 p.m.

Located at 1401 N. Central Ave., the present Holy Ghost Catholic Church opened its doors in 1926. Built in the Gothic style, this church building replaced an earlier one. In 2008, Holy Ghost Catholic Church will celebrate 100 years of existence and service. May its bell ring way beyond then.
