Tour Time is Here!

This year on the first weekend in December several of your Old North Knoxville neighbors will open their homes and host the 13th annual Victorian Holiday Home Tour. This event is the primary fund raiser for Old North Knoxville and allows us to participate in the many activities which help to keep our neighborhood a better place to live. Activities such as scholarships to Fulton High School graduates, delivery of meals on wheels to shut-ins in our neighborhood, signs to guide people to our neighborhood and banners to welcome them to the neighborhood and many others are funded by this tour. This year the following people have consented to open their homes to about 1,000 of their closest friends: Annalee Bohon at 1520 Fremont, Dennis & Patty Earl at 1349 Armstrong, Jeff Lockett at 1355 Armstrong, Mike Branam & Tom Havasy at 1001 Thompson Place, Ellen Massey & Mike Horner at 1237 Armstrong, Kim Davis & Fred Sahms at 226 W. Glenwood, Lynn Fuson at 244 E. Oklahoma and Brian Easley at 417 E. Scott. Joining them will be St. James Episcopal Church at 1101 N. Broadway. Thank you, thank you to all of these wonderful neighbors. As an added attraction this year the Pellissippi State English Caroling Ensemble will be traveling to each of these homes and is performing during the Saturday evening candlelight tour. During the Sunday afternoon part of the tour, the Pellissippi State Celtic Ensemble will be performing at St. James. Old North Knoxville would like to thank all of our friends and sponsors who help make this annual event possible. Special thanks to WUOT, Kroger, Comcast Cable, and St. Mary's Hospital for their participation. Also special thanks to Buddy's BBQ and Coke for furnishing the trailer and generator we use as a ticket booth. If you notice that the streets are just a bit cleaner during the tour, it is due to special attention given to them by Knoxville's Public Service Department and Bob Whetsel with extra leaf pickups for the tour. (Note: get your leaves to the curb by November 28. The trucks will be by on the 28th, 29th, and 30th.) We owe a debt of gratitude to Charles Richmond for allowing us to use his office building on Scott both for restroom usage and sales of baked goods. Finally, thanks to the Old North Knoxville Tour Committee who have been working on this since early this year: Andy Anderson, Pete Creel, Tomica Miller, Dave & Lynne Palmer, Dodi & Marvin Payne, Jesse Ursery and David Vogel. Also, while not able to attend all the meetings, we couldn't have done it without the help of Ernie Roberts and David Booker. Did I leave anyone out? Oh yeah, this year's tour chairperson was Dani Owenby. Thank you Dani for all the hard work and effort that you have put into making this year's tour a success! We look forward to seeing you all during the tour, Saturday, December 1, from 4 until 9 PM and Sunday, December 2, from 1 until 5 PM. As always, tickets will be available at the ticket booth at the lower parking lot of St. Mary's Hospital along with plenty of free parking. We will be running four KAT buses on a continuous schedule during the tour, so there is no need to try to find someplace to park along the tour route. There is also still time to volunteer to help during the tour. Just call Dani at 633-8629 and she'll put you to work. Return to newsletter table of contents
