By Stephanie Lavoie On the morning of October 4, over 200 Christenberry Elementary parents and children walked to school to promote physical activity and safer walking conditions in our community. Old North helped make the event a success by sponsoring a nutritious breakfast of fruit, milk, juice and granola bar following the walk. Athletes from the University of Tennessee and community leaders such as County Commissioner David Collins and School Board Representative Paul Kelley joined the walk and mingled with participants at the reception. parents shared their concerns about walking safely in our community. Results from participant surveys will be available early next year. School officials were impressed with parent participation and student enthusiasm for the walk. Christenberry Principal, Martha Bratton, is interested in having the event at the school next year. The Knox County committee that spearheaded the walk thanks Old North and encourages support and participation from all of the neighborhoods surrounding Christenberry to ensure the success and long-term benefit of this benefit. |
