First Creek Cleanup Scheduled for October 27

Hurry, hurry; another Saturday morning creek cleanup is scheduled for Old North Knoxville's historic First Creek. Once again, ONK will be partnering with the City of Knoxville, Keep Knoxville Beautiful, Tennessee Department of Probation and Parole, and KUB to clean a section of the creek and greenway.

This fall's cleanup will focus on the area from Grainger Street to Glenwood Avenue. If time and volunteers allow, we will make a light sweep of the area cleaned last spring. It's unfortunate to note that the area cleaned just last spring has already been the subject of vandalism, including deliberate additions of shopping carts and other trash to the creek bed. Volunteers of all ages and skills are welcome.

As before, ONK will provide lunch after the cleanup. KUB will provide volunteers with their fabulous H2O to Go bottled water. Those wishing to volunteer for the October 27th cleanup should meet at the parking lot at Cottage Street and Sixth Avenue at 8:30 AM. We'll celebrate our success with pizza at noon.

If you would like more details on the cleanup, or would like to volunteer, please contact ONK resident Beth Booker at 524-8515, or .
