Sept. 1st: It's Ice Cream Time in Tennessee!

Okay, more like, it’s Ice Cream Time again in Old North Knoxville, but for a few short hours on Thursday, September 1st, Old North Knoxville might be all of Tennessee you need to think about. Starting at 6:30 p.m. at 124 East Scott Ave., in the part of the yard affectionately known as “The East Lawn,” Old North Knoxville will host its 9th Annual Ice Cream Social

Close to 110 invitations have been sent out to local dignitaries, so you might get a chance to speak with Knoxville City Mayor Bill Haslam, Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale, city councilmen and –women, and county commissioners, just to name a few. It is an election year for five city council members and four have opposition, so both incumbents and challengers may be present.

In addition, barring an emergency, the Fire Department of Knoxville will have a fire engine on hand for children to tour, the Knoxville Police Department will be present, and there may be another surprise or two, including the possibility of giant plastic cow. There will also be musical entertainment and there might also be a game or two for children to play.

Several flavors of ice cream will be provided. All you have to do is bring a topping for yourself and some to share. Toppings can be a homemade creation (which are often the best) or something favorite from the store. It can be something for everybody or something you should mark “for adults only.”

So, bring yourself and your neighbors to the first block of East Scott, between Central and McMillan for the Old North Knoxville Annual Ice Cream Social. It’s a chance to enjoy the last of summer, the first of fall, and to start off the Labor Day Holiday Weekend with food, friends, and fun. It might even get you ready for Boomsday and that annual fall entertainment, football time in Tennessee.
