In the early part of the 20th century, even while Old North Knoxville was still developing as a neighborhood, there were many homeowners taking in boarders. This often done in order to make ends meet. Sometimes these homeowners were older people or widows, people for whom this was their retirement money.
In the early part of the 21st century, many of us, again, are responsible for their own financial futures. While there is Social Security and Medicare, we also have 401(k) and other investment or retirement plans we are responsible for.
However, you don't have to make or manage these plans alone. Our own Sean Bolen of
H.T. Bolen and Associates can help you develop a financial plan for now or for your retirement, for yourself or for your business. In addition to a degree in financing from the University of Tennessee, Sean has also taken additional training. "I have my Series 7, and Series 66 (the ability to buy and sell securities on a federal and state level), and I am a Registered Representative for NPC (the National Planning Corporation)," Sean said. "I hold a Life and Health Insurance License and can sell life and health insurance policies to individuals or groups." Additionally, over the past 2 1/2 years, Sean has completed the coursework for the CFP (certified financial planner). In the near future, he plans to take the 2-day, 12-hour certification test.
Financial Planners have five major fields that they are knowledgeable of: Tax Planning, Estate Planning, Retirement Planning, Investment Planning, and Risk Management. Being schooled in all of these fields, a Financial Planner can give a more thorough and streamlined plan to a client. "Potential clients can come to us for any of the five fields," Sean said. H.T. Bolen, a father and son company, has written health policies for companies as large as 120 individuals to small art studios that only employ two people.
"A large amount of work we do is in the investment arena," Sean said. "We have software that helps us filter out the best match for objectives of the over 15,000 mutual funds in existence." Sean can help you set up an IRA, update your life insurance policy, create portfolios or manage them.
