Mark your calendar! Prepare your palette! This August 20th, starting at 6 p.m., Old North Knoxville (ONK) hosts its annual Ice Cream Social. This year's event will be held at 124 East Scott Ave. and is subtitled "Political Mixer and Ice Cream Social."
Why? Because we have invited Mayor Victor Ashe as our guest of honor. He and few other folks will take a trolley tour of Old North Knoxville starting at 5 p.m. After the tour, Old North will present him with a token of our appreciation of his historic preservation efforts. And in honor of this being the 25th year of the Old North Knoxville neighborhood association and the 15th year of the annual
Holiday Home Tour, the mayor will present ONK with a proclamation to honor these two milestones.
But that is not all. In addition to the mayor, we have invited all present city council members, as well as candidates for mayor and city council. Also, the county mayor and county commissioners, as well as candidates for city judge, state representatives and state senators, plus other folks of interest have been invited. So, now is the time to meet your neighbors as well as your elected representatives.
Any yet there is even more! Children and children at heart will get a chance to take a ride on the trolley, visit fire fighters and see a fire truck up close, visit with police officers, listen to bluegrass and Celtic music, play a few games, and even ... even have some ice cream. We only ask that you bring a topping to share with your neighbors. ONK will provide the ice cream, the place, the entertainment, and a chance to have a good time. See you August 20th!
