Ice Cream!!!

I LOVE ICE CREAM! I love it in cones, dishes, sundaes, push cones (you older readers know what I'm talking about), fudgesicles, drumsticks, brown cows, ice cream sandwiches and chocolate dipped cones to name a few ways to enjoy it. I like chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate chip, moose tracks, black cherry, rocky road, peach, chocolate mint, fudge ripple and most of the other 31 flavors. I even like Neapolitan,. (I'm not too crazy about pistachio though.) I like it with hot fudge, marshmallow, pineapple, cherry sauce, Oreo cookies, M&M's, butterscotch, gummy bears, sprinkles, blueberries, nuts, whipped cream, strawberries, caramel and other toppings that fertile minds can devise. I'll even eat it plain. Is it any wonder that one of the biggest events for me every year in the neighborhood is the ice cream social?

Well it's almost here. Again this year our neighborhood chose to hold our annual ice cream social in conjunction with the Knoxville Police Department's "Neighbors Night Out." This year it will be on Tuesday, August 6, beginning at 6:30 PM (whatever finish time I put down will be exceeded, so I won't put one down). It will be held at our house at 121 East Scott Avenue again this year and Lynne and I want to extend an invitation to everyone in the neighborhood to join us for this festive event. If you have been to any of the past socials I know that I don't have to ask you twice, you'll be there. If you have never attended one this is the perfect year. Don't like or can't eat ice cream? I can't understand it, but accept it and we'll ask Annalee Bohon to bring some of that good fake stuff again this year. Think it's too hot? We'll pull out the big fans again and ice cream is a great cooler off. Where else can you get the opportunity to meet and talk to elected officials like Mayor Victor Ashe, Councilmen Rob Frost, Jack Sharp, Bob Hulquist and Barbara Pelot and County Commisioner David Collins? (They have all been to past socials and we really hope to see them here again.) We know there will be a lot of Knoxville's finest police officers present (they really like ice cream) and it's a great chance to get to know them as someone other than a face in a patrol car driving by.

OK, so what is the catch? Something that is this much fun with great ice cream (it is Mayfield!) has to have a catch right? Wrong!! There is no charge for anyone!! Your Old North Knoxville neighborhood association furnishes the ice cream, iced tea, lemonade, plates, napkins, spoons and we even dish it out. Well, there is one thing. We do ask that each family bring a topping to share with your neighbors. This is the best part of the whole event, because we never know what will show up on the topping table. (Sometimes we have to put signs that say "adults only" for some of them.)

Sooo…mark the calendar for Tuesday, August 6, beginning at 6:30 PM at 121 East Scott Avenue, get the whole family together and come on over for ICE CREAM!!!!!!
