A Park, a Greenway, and Sidewalks
|
Did you know that there is a park and a greenway in Old North Knoxville? The Baxter Park, beside the fire station on East Baxter, is a small park with a basketball hoop, a swing set, and a few other amenities. First Creek Greenway wends its way through the part of Old North Knoxville in the Grainger Ave. area. You can get on the greenway from several points, including Grainger Ave. and Glenwood Ave. and take a wonderful stroll through part of Old North Knoxville that you might not have thought was there. Both the park and greenway are open until dusk. Another thing we enjoy in Old North Knoxville that is not in many other neighborhoods are sidewalks. You can walk on sidewalks to get to any of these recreation areas in Old North Knoxville or use them simply to walk around Old North Knoxville. Last year Old North News extolled the virtues of having front porches. We would now like to encourage people to not only get out and walk but to also keep the sidewalks around our homes clean. That not only means keeping them cleaned off, it also means trimming back overhanging bushes and tree limbs that make walking difficult. Doing these two things not only encourages walking, they also encourage neighborhood safety. A clear sidewalk means walkers don’t have to step out into the street to get around branches or trash. And walkers also add to the security of the neighborhood. As part of the Neighborhood Watch program, walking around is a good way to help keep our homes safe. So, let’s all pitch in and keep our sidewalks clean and easy to walk on. |
