As your new president, I would first like to thank Tomica Miller. For almost three years she has served as ONK's president and has worked many hours on many projects in order to make Old North Knoxville a better place to live. She has served on almost every committee ONK has and has worked long hours to get things done. This in addition to a full-time job as well as recently opening the first bed and breakfast in an historic district in Knoxville. I'm sure we all wish her well and are pleased she is going to remain on the board and continue to work to improve life in ONK.
Now, a little about myself. I have lived in Old North Knoxville, on Oklahoma Ave., for four years. I have only been on the board for two years, but the wealth of knowledge and support on the board and in the neighborhood itself is one of the reasons I enjoy living here. I have served on the Traffic Calming Committee and have been the chair of the Home Tour Committee.
I am originally from Sevierville and moved to Knoxville in 1997. Then I went on a home tour and fell in love with the older homes and wanted one of my own. I am an active member of the Metropolitan Community Church of Knoxville. I was recently installed as a deacon at the Metropolitan and want to work with the church to gain equal rights for all people.
In the next five years, I would like Old North Knoxville to become a premiere neighborhood in the city, a place where people can live, work, and raise a family, and a place where others can see how we work together to tackle the many issues and opportunities before us. And as the new president of ONK and with your help, we will all work to make that happen. Come join us. Come volunteer.
