Old North Knoxville Board member James Pierce

West Tennessee native James Pierce is a fairly recent addition to ONK and the board.

"I've always wanted to live in an older home."

"Older homes have a quality that newer homes don't have and I don't want the predominate feature to be the garage door on the front of the house."

These are a couple of quotes from James Pierce, an Old North Knoxville board member in a recent interview.

James and Beth Needham have lived on Leonard Place for about a year and a half, and he has been on the board for a little over a year. What he likes best about being on the board is the participation with the other members and trying to improve the quality of life that we all have. While not being a committee member, he still works with the Beautification Committee and the Neighborhood Watch.

Before purchasing their home, he and Beth looked all over Knoxville. He said they had looked in Lindbergh Forest, Sequoyah Hills, Holston Hills, and the Fourth and Gill area before deciding to buy the house on Leonard Place in Old North Knoxville. "This was the second house we looked at, and we went to at least sixty others before buying this one."

His outlook over the next five years would be for the neighborhood to stay on top of issues, provide good leadership, and to urge more participation. He also thinks ONK is on the right path and that the neighborhood is very welcoming to newcomers. Another hope he has is for the city to support more restoration of older neighborhoods and make use of the tools available.

James was born in West Tennessee and Beth is a native Knoxvillian; they moved here from Memphis. He works in the cabinet department at Lowe's on Clinton Highway. If he had more hours in the day, he would like to be able to work more on the restoration of the outside of their home. He feels that he has pretty much finished the inside. Their home was on the 2004 Holiday Home Tour.
