As Spring Arrives, Things to be Thankful for

Above, after being vacant for years, the house at 215 E. Oklahoma has recently sold, is being restored, and the owners will be new neighbors in Old North Knoxville.

Spring cleaning is a tradition that will always be with us. It's a time to decide what to keep and what to give away. Of course, there are things that need to be given away during almost any season, things that are probably not given away enough: one of those things is thank you's.

We at Old North News would like to say a special thank you to Jesse Ursery. While you might never see his work on the pages of this newsletter (unless he decides to write something), what he does ensures that you receive your newsletter. He maintains the mailing list, adds new names and addresses as we find them, keeps abreast of U.S. Postal regulations, and even lends a hand to make sure the newsletter gets out on time. Without his efforts and diligence this newsletter would cost more to mail and not be in your mailbox with the regularity it has been. He is Old North's one man mail room.

A thank you also needs to go to David Vogel. He recently purchased the house at 1519 Fremont and has already started rehabilitating it. This is his third house in Old North Knoxville. He has done similar work to houses on Glenwood and East Scott. It's good to see old homes saved and especially so when being done by one of our caring neighbors.

Speaking of houses being saved, if you've been down the 200 block of East Oklahoma recently, you would have seen a very large dumpster in front of 215 E. Oklahoma. A house that has been vacant for many many years has recently sold and repair work is underway. While these neighbors are new to Old North, they want to bring the house back to its former glory. Thank you.

With Spring comes the rebirth not only of plants and trees, but also of old homes, and with these rebirths the hope of brighter and better days ahead for Old North Knoxville.
