2012 ONK Dogwood Walking Trail

We're excited to be the host of a new walking trail to showcase the beautiful trees and landscapes of our neighborhood in 2012. The 2012 Trail features two sections, with a connection to the First Creek Greenway. The trail is posted with signs at the start of each section and bright pink arrows to mark the turns. Look carefully for newly planted white and pink dogwoods in yards along East Oklahoma, East Scott, West Glenwood, among other streets. They're marked with white circular tags and were planted in December.

Parking for each section begins at Rose Mortuary. Refreshments are available at local businesses on both trails, Central Street on the West Trail and Broadway on the East Trail. The blooms may not last much longer, so enjoy the blooms soon! The trail is free to the public and open dawn to dusk from April 11-30. It is sponsored by the ONK, Inc and the Dogwood Arts Festival.

It's almost time for our February 13th ONK Potluck and board meeting...
Time: Monday, Feb. 13th · 6:30pm - 9:00pm

Food: neighbor Beth Booker has suggested a Casserole theme! If you have a
favorite casserole, bring some to share with neighbors. All other dishes or
desserts welcome as well (vegetarian, meat, desserts, etc.)

November Events!

This month's potluck will be held on November 14th and will be soup themed. The soup themed potluck was a hit last November and promises not to disappoint this year! Besides your favorite soup, feel free to bring a dessert or soup related side to share!

The Home Tour is weeks away now and will be here before we know it! We are still in need of volunteers to help with this neighborhood wide event. If you have some free time the weekend after Thanksgiving and would like to volunteer your time, please contact Lauren Rider at 524-4267 or laurenellent@yahoo.com.

In preparation for the Home Tour, ONK neighbors are invited to help "tidy up" our neighborhood before the annual event. This will take place on Saturday, November 19th. Look for more information on this event to be listed here on the website and on the Old North Knoxville yahoo group.

October was the first month for the City of Knoxville's new recycling initiative. As can be expected, there are some kinks in the new program. If you have any questions or concerns, we have been told that you can contact 3-1-1 and they will field complaints and issues related to the City's recycling program and schedule pick-ups if necessary.

This month's ONK Potluck and Board meeting will be on October 10th at the Fellowship Hall of St. James Episcopal, 1101 N. Broadway. The potluck starts at 6:30 pm and announcements are made at 7:15 p.m. The ONK Board of Directors meeting is at 7:30 p.m. This month's Potluck is Chili Themed! Bring your best chili or related dish (or dessert, if you prefer).

ONK Park Clean-Up will be October 16th. The park needs our help! We'll be meeting at the park site on Sunday October 16th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for fall weeding and mulching. Bring along your gardening tools, wheelbarrows, and gloves. Join us for any or all of this time and help us make urban green spot shine!

Many neighbors are very excited about our Sept. 12th Potluck & Board meeting. The potluck will be breakfast themed! Who doesn't like an excuse to have breakfast for dinner?

Join us! The potluck starts at 6:30PM in the Fellowship Hall of St. James Episcopal Church (1101 N. Broadway). ONK's Board Meeting from 7:15-9:00pm. Meetings include an opportunity to chat with neighbors, exchange neighborhood watch info and discuss projects that benefit the neighborhood.

On Sept. 24th, starting at 9:00AM, we'll clean the First Creek Greenway and Creek area. Unite with neighbors to clean-up this space and make it a better place for nature and humans.

Neighbors Night Out - Tuesday, August 2nd, 6pm at Relix Variety Theatre - grab a drink and meet-up with neighbors and KPD reps for information on neighborhood watch.

ONK Potluck & Community Meeting - Monday, August 8th, 6:30pm at the Fellowship Hall of St. James Episcopal Church (1101 N. Broadway). Bring a dish and chat with neighbors and upcoming events.

The ONK Hometour is still seeking 4 more houses for our 2011 event, Dec. 3rd & 4th. Contact Lauren Rider at 524-4267 if you are willing to be on the tour. All streets in ONK are considered; we specifically need houses on Grainger, Leonard, N. 4th and Glenwood.

Greenway & First Creek Clean-up!

Everyone is invited and encouraged to help Clean-up the Greenway! Saturday, May 28th, 2011. Meet at 9:00am at the intersection of Hoitt & Luttrell. Bring hip-waders if you have them. After several spring storms and the February flood, the park needs some TLC.

Enjoy a potluck lunch at Noon. Bring a dish to share. There will be sidewalk chalk and other toys for the kids to play with. Trash bags and a dumpster will be available to collect items.

See you then! Saturday May 28th, 9AM - Noon.
