Work is continuing on the Old North Knoxville Neighborhood Park, which started out as two abandoned lots adjacent to each other.  David Booker spearheaded the effort to allow ONK to obtain access to these lots through a lease with the City of Knoxville, who now owns the property. After an initial effort in the summer of 2004 to clear away ample undergrowth that had taken over the lots, neighbors have been busy mowing, excavating debris, and filling holes in preparation to take this park to the next level.

This summer, Beth Booker helped to coordinate efforts with the East Tennessee Community Design Center (ETCDC), architect Trey Benefield, ASLA (a volunteer for ETCDC) and architecture intern Joe Cole to create a plan for further developing this park.  The design was presented at a neighborhood meeting after being reviewed by the ONK board, where it was favorably reviewed and officially accepted by the neighborhood. Then, on September 7, it was unveiled again at the annual Ice Cream Social, which was held for the first time at the park location.

ONK will now begin the multi-year implementation process for development of the park!

Funding for the project was provided by the City of Knoxville Department of Development Community Development Block Grant.
