Police Advisory Review
Committee (PARC) Meeting Scheduled for October 18
Gregory and Rena Webb, who
are heading up the Old North Knoxville Neighborhood
Watch Committee, announced recently that our neighborhood will be hosting the next Police
Advisory Review Committee (PARC) quarterly meeting. The meeting
will be held at 4th Presbyterian church on October 18th at 6:00
pm. According to Greg, PARC's goal is to have all their
quarterly
meetings in different neighborhoods so that people can take part and let
their concerns be heard. He is working with his contacts at PARC to
encourage Knoxville's Chief of
Police, Phil Keith, to attend. Greg says, "We don't get many chances to speak with him as a neighborhood. Start
writing your
questions down and tell your neighbors to attend and bring their
questions. I want everyone in Old North to know, now is your chance
to be heard."
Greg also reports that things seem to be
looking better around Oklahoma Avenue, which had been attracting a somewhat "seedier" element of non-residents in recent
months. "We all must continue to keep an eye out in our neighborhood," Greg notes. "If you see something that
looks fishy, call the police. If you see a car parked in front of your
house and you don't know them, chances are they are engaging in something
that probably has to do with a prostitute." Greg requests,
"If you see this happening, please call and ask to speak with the
officer on patrol. They are prompt to call you back and you can give
him or her the description of the car and they will check it out. If
our female (and male) problems see the police checking out their car,
maybe they will get the message." (Note from webmaster: see the
story
on ONK's neighborhood watch to get more information on the telephone
numbers to call for different situations; however, 215-4010 will do
most of the time.)
If anyone has questions or feedback, Greg
and Rena say to contact them at 546-8717 or tonalweb@bellsouth.net.
